Dr Geoffrey Browell
Consultant Archivist & Historian
Geoff brings more than thirty years’ experience in the archive profession, including nearly a decade as former Head of Archives at King’s College London, one of the UK’s premier university archives services. He has also worked as a private consultant on numerous projects, including scoping the papers of individual artists and authors, a major consumer goods business, and collections relating to film, television, defence, and security, and on fundraising and technology implementations, not least digital asset management systems used by businesses for marketing and social media. As chair of the charity AIM25, a consortium of the archives of some 150 cultural organisations in London, he has led projects notably the UK contribution to the pan-European Yerusha project on Jewish history.
Networking is at the heart of his professional practice, and he has organised numerous events, including physical and digital exhibitions, concerts, and conferences. He is an experienced fundraiser and served on the Wellcome Trust Research Resources funding panel for many years. He is a co-founder of XRchiving, set up to promote the use of Extended Reality relating to the built environment in heritage – its most recent project is a detailed 3D scan of London’s historic Guildhall.
Geoff holds a PhD in history and recently co-authored The Strand: A Biography (MUP, 2025), which won the Guide category in the Architecture Book of the Year Awards, 2025. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and a Freeman of the City of London.
