GOETHE-INSTITUTE
Thematic exhibition at the Goethe-Institute Hong Kong
In 2021, History Ink was invited to curate the Hong Kong portion of an exhibition for the Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, which explored the hitherto unknown history of Jewish refugees in Hong Kong.
Titled ‘Jewish Life in Germany and Escape Destination Hong Kong’, the exhibition was written by History Ink’s Amelia Allsop. It was opened in November 2021 and featured multimedia content as well as never-before-seen photographs, oral histories and written records from the archive of the Hong Kong Heritage Project, the Kadoorie family’s archive, as well as repositories from around the world. As well as writing the exhibition script, Amelia also wrote the exhibition brochure and recorded and sourced oral histories for the exhibition film reel.
The exhibition was brought to Hong Kong by the Center for Persecuted Arts in Solingen, the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Program, the German Consulate General in Hong Kong and the Goethe-Institut.
Amelia was interviewed by Tamar Herman of the South China Morning Post about the exhibition.
