Archives training in Singapore

In November 2025 we delivered our bespoke archives training course to employees of a well-known members’ club in Singapore. The club has an incredible collection of historic papers, and they are taking steps to preserve and organise these materials with the help of History Ink.

During the workshop, we focused on core archival principles including: acquisition, arrangement and description, and preservation, but we also had fun working through some hands-on assessements including:

  • How to write an Archives Mission Statement. This document can help articulate the goals of your archive and tells prospective donors what you will and will not collect

  • Copyright questions and riddles. An important aspect of managing any institutional archive is understanding copyright law. Many businesses are sitting on a treasure trove of copyright-free brand images, and these collections can sometimes be underutilised. On the flip side - just because a photograph is housed in your archive, it doesn’t mean you can use it without a license!

  • A step-by-side digitization guide. Digitizing historic collections takes time and resources, but it also makes financial sense for those businesses and organisations looking to share their history (and their story) online, whether it be a LinkedIn post or a Tik Tok video. We discussed the project management aspects of managing and coordinating a major digitization programme, as well as ensuring that digital records are preserved for the long-term.
