Using Oral History for Public Engagement
Amelia speaks at the ICA Section for Business Archives, 2017
Amelia has delivered numerous oral history-based training sessions as part of outreach activities aimed at secondary and university-level students in partnership with higher education institutions and cultural organisations. She has been invited to speak at universities in Hong Kong, the United States and Canada on the subject of oral history in community and corporate contexts.
Since 2007, Amelia has worked together with colleagues at The Hong Kong Heritage Project to utilise oral history materials in films, documentaries, books, and public exhibitions and displays. She has recorded over 300 filmed interviews for the project, helping to create the largest visual oral history repository in Hong Kong.
Amelia was previously the Co-Chair of the Hong Kong Oral History Group (2012 - 2015) and is a founder of the Archives and Oral History SIG under the Oral History Society, UK (2022). She has written widely on the subject of oral history, most recently for the journal ‘Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archive Professionals’, published in 2022.
