International Archives Week 2026

This year’s IAW theme is ‘Archives for Justice’

International Archives Week is a global event spearheaded by the International Council on Archives (ICA) and organised around the world by local archivists and archives associations.

This year’s theme is Archives for Justice: Rights, Memories and Futures. The week-long celebration is an important opportunity to reflect on the role archives play in accountability, memory, inclusion, and long-term justice, across institutions, communities, and generations.

The ICA organised a number of seminar sessions this week, with speakers exploring topics such as: archives as evidence, safe havens for archives at risk, archives for inclusion, archives for accessibility, archives for memory, and archives and colonial legacies.

History Ink’s postcard: ‘harness the power of history’

In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Archives Society hosted their own event on Saturday 6 June on the topic of the ‘Art of Archiving’, which drew large crowds including archivists, researchers, and members of the public. The event was a great success, and we were delighted to distribute our History Ink postcard designed by Jeanne Mah and which perfectly captures our take on archives - a place not only to preserve, but also share history - a repository of evidence, knowledge and shared identity.
